The family of Andrew Obuku, the brother of Dr Ekwaru Obuku, the former president of the Uganda Medical Association, is in grief after their baby boy was beaten to death by a dog.
According to police investigations, at around 10am on Monday, the family dog escaped from it’s kennel, attacked and bit to death Baby Raphael at their home located in Canaan Estate Mawugulu cell Katabi town council Wakiso district.
This incident happened when the parents had left the baby in the custody of the newly recruited house maid, one Sharon Nuwarinda.
The maid narrated that the boy was placed on the veranda of the house as she was doing her house work. When she saw the dog coming to attack the boy, she rushed pick him up but the canine had grabbed the little one already.
“The maid tried to struggle with the dog but it over powered her and it bit the boy’s head badly. It also bit the maid’s thigh,” police said.
The maid made a continuous alarm and when the dog killed the boy,it went back to its kennel. Later on, the neighbours arrived at Mr Obuku’s home and the deceased was rushed to Kisubi hospital.
Police officers from Entebbe and Ksubi went at the scene of crime to assess the situation and took samples of parts of the deceased’s body.
According to police, the dog has been hostile and it one time tried to attack people from the neighbourhood.

“The home is ever locked from the gate which make it hard for the neighbours to rescue the situation, ” police said.
According to police, the dog badly bit the boys head hence it removed the internal organs, which is a rare behaviour of dogs and thus it might have been sick.
The body was taken to Kisubi Hospital first and later to Mulago for postmoterm
The house maid was taken to Entebbe police station for safe custody.
