At the weekend, pictures emerged of National Resistance Movement (NRM) Secretary General Richard Todwong and Anne Ruyondo together.
Apparently, Anne Ruyondo had introduced Todwong to her family as her husband at a traditional ceremony termed culturally as ‘Kugamba Obugenyi’
The function took place in Bugoloobi at the home of Kwame Ruyondo.
Todwong was being introduced despite already being married to Barbara Ayesiimire, with the two already having three children.
But who is Anne Ruyondo?
Born in 1990, Anne is the daughter of Col Patrick Lumumba, one of the 27 NRA rebels that initiated what came to be known as Uganda’s revolution.
Lumumba died in 1991 when Anne was a one-year-old.
However, with the supportive family and friends, Anne was raised to become a top level administrator, business owner and accomplished farmer.
She went to school at Lohana Academy for her primary education, Merryland High School, Entebbe, and Greenhill Academy, for O and A-level respectively, and later Nkumba University for a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, which she completed in 2012.
She became the business administrator at Pinnacle Security immediately after finishing her degree. But with her passion for business tugging at her, she left Pinnacle and with her savings, bought Obama’s bar in Kabalagala, from businessman Rugiirwa Katatumba, in January 2014.
This venture turned out to be worth the investment as she made a lot of money. But this didn’t let her rest on her laurels. She ventured into agriculture with the help of her uncle, Gen Salim Saleh. And with a farm in Kiruhura already, she set out to expand her agricultural portfolio, buying land in Matugga, where she started another dairy farm.
Anne contested for national youth politics in 2016 losing to Anna Adeke Ebaju. She also contested the Woman MP seat in the new district of Kazo but lost.
