Four children are currently fighting for their lives in hospital after being seriously injured by an assailant in an attack that happened in broad day light on Monday in Katwe, a Kampala suburb.
According to police, at approximately 10:30 am, an unidentified assailant, armed with a panga, forcibly entered the residence of Ms. Ayebare Anita, 25 years old, a resident of Bongole Zone, while she was having breakfast with her children.
The assailant, threatening violence, demanded a sum of five million in cash from Ms. Ayebare Anita. When she resisted, the perpetrator turned his aggression towards her four children: Atuhaire Lucia (2 years), Ampaire Maria Zoe (5 years), Musiime Blair (7 yrs), and Ankunda Godius (14 years)
“Thanks to the swift response of both local residents and the police stationed at Mirimu, the assailant was subdued. It was later realized that he had inflicted injuries on the children,” Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police spokesman Luke Owoyesigyire said.
The children were immediately rushed to Nalujja Medical Center, Batata Entebbe road, for urgent medical attention. However, their condition remains critical, according to Owoyesigyire.
The body of the suspect was conveyed to the city mortuary Mulago for postmortem, as investigations continue with the aim of ascertaining his identity and motive. More details will be made available as soon as possible.
