KAMPALA: NTV management announced that the famous Luganda news anchor Frank Walusimbi quit his job at NTV Uganda after he anchored his last Akawungeezi 7:00 p.m. bulletin on Thursday.
“Frank Walusimbi anchored his last #NTVAkawungeezi bulletin today. He has served the station for over 15 years and we believe that his work with us including shows like #Tuwaye and #EbigamboTebitta have positively impacted many,” NTV tweeted on Thursday, adding, “Thank you Frank and we wish you the best.”
Following the anchor’s decision to quit, Ugandans appreciated his work including prominent politician, musician and National Unity Platform (NUP) party President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, known by his stage name Bobi Wine.
Bobi Wine on Friday Tweeted, “Thank you @FrankWALUSIMBI for a job well done as a journalist and news anchor all these years. Thank you for the competence, professionalism and always according respect to the viewers. Always warmed by your calmness, composure & fluency. Wish you the best in your next endeavours.”
Also in unison, other prominent figures have continued to shower the media personality with lots of praise. Among these is NTV Presenter Lynda Ddane who Tweeted saying, “Still don’t really have words to say ? but rest assured ; you will be missed ?? @FrankWALUSIMBI @ntvuganda.” “God bless you in your new journey & endeavors ???,” she added.
Walusimbi who anchored his first news bulletin on December 25, 2006 has worked with Nation Media for over 15 years, having joined in the same year when the station had just launched in Uganda.
“This is the last bulletin I am anchoring. Who knows in the future, God willing, whether I will make a return? Thank you for standing with me,” he said.
All you need to know about celebrated journalist Frank Walusimbi
As a simple and humble person, Frank Walusimbi was born in Kilembe Hospital, Kasese District. His father was an engineer and his mother a housewife.
Frank Walusimbi was raised in the Catholic church while growing up but desired to become a born again Christian (Pentecostal) when he grew up.
He went to Busega Preparatory Primary School for his primary education after which he joined Uganda Martyrs’ Secondary School, Rubaga for his O and A- level.
Walusimbi studied Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication at Uganda Christian University – UCU and also holds a Masters degree in Development Studies from Nkozi University.
In 2004 towards the end of his degree in Mass Communication at UCU Mukono, he started writing humorous pieces for the Sunday magazine as he was looking around for other stuff to do.
Later in 2005, he joined the Daily Monitor as a features writer before he crossed over to NTV in 2006.
