ENTEBEE: In the absence of prolonged competitive golf due to the Covid-19 pandemic, as Ugandan golfers have not swung their clubs in as many months. However, they have received good news after the Union has confirmed new dates for the prestigious Uganda Golf Open due next month.
According to the dates released by the Union, the 80th Uganda Open will be played in five category competitions; the Ladies Open, the Seniors Open, the Amateurs Open, the Pro-AM and the Professionals, at the par-71 Entebbe Golf Club.
First to tee off the competition will be the Ladies Open scheduled for November 18 to 20.
Irene Nakalembe, who boasts of an impressive winning record on the Entebbe course, is highly tipped to win the Uganda Open this time.
Nakalembe narrowly lost out to defending champion Martha Babirye in the last two editions of the tournament. She will be out to break the Uganda Open jinx this time round. Actually, it’s the only major local title missing in her glittering career.
The rest of the competition schedule is as follows; the Seniors will be played from November 19 to 20, the Amateur will be between November 24 and 27, the Pro-AM is on November 30 and the Professionals due December 1 to 4.
