The heavy downpour across Kampala city and surrounding areas on Saturday could not stop action at Volta Arena in Kyanja as Jinja College (Jico)League entered game day five.
The promised fireworks were on show as all teams displayed special talent. Solida FC re-affirmed that they were not last season’s champions by a fluke as they beat Mbuyaga FC 2:0 in the first game before closing the day with a 1:0 victory against Jico 99. The Kampala Report-sponsored Kaswandi FC took Scorpion Kings to a football school with a 4:0 victory.
Nvuluga FC were also lucky to take maximum points from Kaboige after the 2:0 magical display. Collegian FC, who were table leaders after game day 4, shared spoils with Jico 99 after a 1:1 draw. They seemed to have left their shooting boots home as they drew their second game against Mbokya FC. After the game, the Collegian coach was not anywhere to comment about their lacklustre performance.
The second round of the games saw Scorpion Kings receive another humiliation at the hands of their elders, Winter FC, who proved that age is just a number. It was as if Winter was paying back for the 1:1 draw they had earlier on against crowd puller Mboyo FC. The Kaswandi jinx against Kibaati could not be broken as they suffered a 1:0 defeat. Mbuyaga recovered from the 2:0 loss they had suffered at the hands of Solida FC to beat Kaboige FC 4:2.
Results of the day first set of games include; Mboyo FC 1 Winter FC 1; Collegian 1 Jico 99 FC 1; Nvuluga FC 2 Kaboige 0; Scopion Kings FC 0 Kaswandi FC 4; and Kibaati FC1 Mbokya FC 1.
Others are Kasenge 0 LXG 04 FC 3; and Solida FC 2 Mbuyaga FC 0.
In the second set of games, the results were; Winter FC 5 Scopion Kings 0; Kaswandi FC 0 Kibaati FC 1; Nvuluga FC 2 Kasenge 0; LXG 04 FC 1 Mboyo 1; Mbokya FC1 Collegian FC 1; Jico 99 FC 0 Solida 1; and Kaboige 2 Mbuyaga FC 4.
The evening was spiced by the league’s latest addition on the list of sponsors, Kakira’s talk of the town Kakira Rum. The best two teams of the day were Solida and Mbuya and each took home a bottle of the Kakira Gold Rum.
After the successful day, League President Timothy Lasuba Dada took to the various Jico social media platforms and poured out his heart of gratitude.
“I take this opportunity to applaud each and every one of you who braved the weather. Allow me to commend us for a better play on the pitch. Thank you for drawing out the gentleman in you. Our laser is focused on making every single game day better than the former. We will keep at it as we build up to and for the finale.”
He also announced the next game day which will be 1st June 2024.
