BUNDUBUGYO: According to a postmortem report, the Bundibugyo NRM party registrar, Robert Kifunga Aguma, was strangled to death.
Last Saturday, Kifunga’s body was found in the Bimala cell in the Kanyansimbi ward of Bundibugyo Town Council. There was no blood on it.
The body was then taken to Bundibugyo General Hospital before being transferred to Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem. There were rumours that the deceased could have been poisoned.
There have been police investigations into Aguma’s death after the postmortem report came back. This is what the Rwenzori West Regional Police Commander, Norman Musinga, says.
Musinga said the manner in which the deceased were killed indicates that it was an organised act. He asked the general public to share information.
The Deputy Resident District Commissioner-RDC, Umari Muhanguzi, asked the people of Bundibugyo to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies to hunt down the suspects.
Hassan Baguma, a relative of the dead and the chair of the Bundibugyo TC, asked the security team to speed up the investigation.
It was said that during the NRM party primaries, Aguma didn’t vote for some candidates.
In September 2020, the former Bughendera County MP, Christopher Kibanzanga, stormed the tally centre, accusing Aguma of deliberately delaying announcing the results. Aguma was also accused of siding with Kibanzanga’s rival, Acrobert Moses Kiiza.
