KAMPALA: Local Council One chairpersons in Kampala subscribing to the ruling NRM party have complained of being sidelined in major government programs.
Speaking during a meeting with the NRM Secretary-General, Richard Todwong, at the party headquarters on Friday, December 3, 2021, the LC chairpersons complained about being left out of Government programs and hardly participating in them.
They said whereas programs like Emyooga, Parish model are in their jurisdictions, they hardly play roles in carrying them out.
The Secretary-General who invited chairpersons for the meeting was pleased to hear from them, promised to work hand in hand with them and use the party to help them amplify their voices of concern to various organs of government.
He also noted the very importance of the LC1 chairpersons in their respective communities.
“When one wants a SIM card replacement, they go to the LC1 for a letter, even in big cases like land grabbing, the LC1 is a required personnel in settling the case,” he said.
The Secretary-General promised to invite Uganda Police and other security organs to come and talk to the LC1 chairpersons and guide them on how they should handle some cases since most of them are ignorant about the law.
In attendance at the meeting was the National Treasurer of NRM Amb. Barbra Oundo Nekesa, Hon. Dombo Lumala Emmanuel, the Director of Information and Publicity and Hon. Rosemary Seninde, the Director for Mobilization, Recruitment, and Cadre Development.
