ENTEBBE: The Ministry of Works and Transport on Monday, 03 January 2022 started issuing road toll cards to motorists using the Kampala-Entebbe Expressway ahead of implementing the new charges for use of the road.
According to Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA), the road toll cards are now available at the Toll Plazas of Busega, Kajjansi and Mpala.
However, UNRA says motorists will continue using the road freely until actual tolling begins later this month.

“Only two categories of vehicles will be exempted from paying these tolls and these are enshrined in the Road Act, the emergency vehicles of fire brigade and ambulances and the presidential Convoy. All ministers, Resident District Commissioners, security chiefs with government flags, Members of Parliament are advised to pay monthly in advance to avoid any inconveniences,” he said.
EGIS has been contracted to collect the toll fees of the 25 kilometre section of the road between Busega and Mpala interchanges and 1.2 kilometre section on Munyonyo spur.
The charges are as follows;
Motorcycles will be required to pay Shs3,000 per passage, Light Vehicles will pay Shs5,000 per passage while Medium goods vehicles (2-3 axles) shall pay Shs10,000 per passage.
Large goods vehicles and buses (45) shall pay Shs15,000 per passage and Large good vehicles (6 or More axles) Shs18,000
Frequent users of the road will get 50 percent discount for seven day return trips purchased in advance.

Susan Kaitake, the works ministry spokesperson, said the fees announced by Gen Wamala shall be valid for a period of one year from the commencement date of tolling and the government shall review the rates if need be.
