Ashraf Kiiza, who was captured in a viral social media video attempting to rob a man in Nateete, Kampala, has been arrested.
According to police, Kiiza was apprehended by officers from the Flying Squad Unit Police officers from Kyotera District after being on the run since the evening of May 13, 2024, when the incident occurred.
“Ashraf Kiiza was located in Kyotera on May 15 and is now detained at Nateete Police Station. Further investigations are ongoing, and he will be prosecuted accordingly in the courts of law,” police said in a statement on Thursday.
In the viral video, Kiiza, using a machete and hammer attacked Sam Turyamuhaki after the latter had received Shs8m at Bashir Grain Millers’ cash office on May 13, 2024.
“I was verifying a sum of 8 million shillings when an employee, Kiiza Ashiraf, entered the office with a sack,” Turyamuhaki,55, said.
“Before I knew it, he pulled out a machete and a hammer and demanded the money.”
However, Turyamuhaki struggled with the attacker, trying to disarm him. The attacker eventually fled as other employees came to help the victim.
Turyamuhaki suffered severe head injuries.
