The European Union in Uganda has hit out at the “forgery” being spread by Mwesigye Frank, a self-proclaimed supporter of Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, regarding their association with exiled novelist Kakwenza Rukirabashaija.
Mwesigye on February 8, 2024, published a letter on his X page, claiming that it was a confidential agreement between Kakwenza and EU to promote same-sex marriages and rights of other people being persecuted in Uganda for their political affiliation.
“Stay tuned for more letters. Together we can fight double standards in our country,” he wrote.
However, the letter lacked any headed paper and signatures and was devoid of fonts and clear English language that are characteristic of EU official letters. Some of his followers also questioned its authenticity.
And now, the EU has hit back, poking poles in Mwesigye’s letter, explaining how the addresses, the font type and different signatures do not rhyme with EU work. They then rated him with an “F” saying that he can do better.
“We trust you will understand our decision to address you without the use of self-attributed titles. Below, please find our response to the disinformation you have spread through this forgery. Best regards,” they wrote on X on Monday.
The EU response drew responses from many followers, including Dr Kizza Besigye, who wrote: “I am greatly relieved to learn the @MwesigyeFranks isn’t a Ug MP!! I was really horrified that a person of his character can be associated with our national institutions! Thanks @KakwenzaRukira for informing me of his real station.”
Melvin Nasasira wrote: “I was going to say no one can get back from this embarrassment and then I remembered the man has no shame. He is the kind of guy who’ll spout any nonsense just to turn heads. Absolutely no sense of dignity. He’s not the solid, reliable type. He’s more like a flag flapping whichever way the wind blows. No backbone to speak of. I doubt he’ll even read this or even understand the depth of the hole he’s dug for himself. But the EU did the right thing, of course. You can’t let such ridiculousness go unchallenged in the public eye, but when you respond, you go hard. You go for the knockout punch. Right for the jugular.”
