Former winners Vipers SC, Mbarara City FC and Bright Stars FC progressed to the last-16 stage of this year’s Stanbic Uganda Cup tournament after winning their round-of-32 games on Wednesday, February 15.
Vipers, who were also losing finalists last season, once again needed penalties to qualify for the last-16 as they beat Jinja North United 7-6 following a goalless draw at the Kakindu stadium. In the round-of-64, Vipers ejected Kitara regional side Bujumbura United 5-4 on penalties last week.
Elsewhere, Bright Stars also advanced on penalties after ejecting former cup winners Mbale Heroes 4-3. The two sides settled for a one-all draw at Mbale City stadium.
FUFA Big League side, Mbarara City FC, was the only team to win in normal time after they ejected Eastern Region side Tororo Admin 1-0, thanks to Kitegenyi Henry’s second half penalty.
Vipers, Soltilo Bright Stars and Mbarara City have joined Wakiso Giants and Kitara in the round-of-16.
