A team of state house anti-corruption unit investigators on Friday left Bukwo after spending two days in the area carrying investigations into the alleged misappropriation of public resources by officials.

The team led by a senior legal officer, Mr. Peter Ndomugyenyi, got shocked after searching for three non-exiting roads in Suam sub-county which the district had claimed were worked on and 2 billion shillings spent on them.

“I can’t believe this and we can’t continue to keep these kinds of officers who are denying the community their right to development,” Mr. Peter Ndomugyenyi, the state house anti-corruption unit team leader, said.

Mr. Peter Ndomugyenyi said they will come back to the district, adding that many projects which are being accounted for on paper do not exist.

Samuel Hashaka Mpimbaza, the resident district commissioner of Bukwo, said they were also shocked to read a report that these particular roads were worked on yet no grader even did any clearing.

“It is terrible here in Bukwo where officials use public resources at their liberty without any fear or following the right procedure,” he said.

Mr. Julius Chelimo, the district chairperson, said the community was now turning against him because he was not lobbying for developmental projects, yet it is the officials at the district who have been missing out on the projects.

“I am happy that even the community is now getting to know the reality because they have been complaining that my leadership was not working,” he said.

Meanwhile, all the six officials in Bukwo earlier arrested have been released on police bond and are waiting to appear in court.

They include Franklin Kitiyo, the district production officer; the chief finance officer, Andrew Bukose; David Aliwa, who is the acting deputy chief administrative officer; and Ms. Chatherine Cheptanui, PAS.

Other members of the Suam town council include Fred Sokuton Twalla, the district Education officer, and Limo Chelimo, the Sokuton town clerk.

The general public has welcomed the visit of the state house anticorruption unit to the district, describing it as a milestone.

Gertrude Chelangat, one of the residents, requested the inspectorate of the government to also visit the district and see the corruption in the district.
