RESULTS:
Vipers 2 Gaddafi 0
BUL 1 KCCA 1
Bright Stars 1 Wakiso Giants 0
KCCA FC coach Morley Byekwaso refused to concede that Vipers SC be crowned the StarTimes Uganda Premier League champions despite his team failing to beat BUL FC in one of the games played on Wednesday (April 20) evening.
Speaking after his side’s 1-1 draw with BUL FC at the Kyabazinga stadium in Jinja, Byekwaso insisted that KCCA still have the chance to win the title.
“It’s not yet over; we’ll fight on till the end. We still have five games to play and we’ll give it our best,” Byekwaso whose KCCA now trails Vipers with 14 points, stated.
As KCCA struggled to draw with BUL, their title rivals Vipers comfortably defeated Gaddafi FC 2-0 at the St Mary’s stadium in Kitende on the same evening. Caesar Manzoki scored both goals in the game to stretch Vipers lead to 14 points ahead of second-placed KCCA FC.
Vipers now have 61 points compared to KCCA’s 47 from 25 games. This means Vipers can seal the title with just one more victory in the remaining five games.
In reality, KCCA would need a miracle to win the title at this stage. The Kasasiro Boys must win their remaining five games and pray that Vipers lose all their matches.
Meanwhile, Bright Stars moved out of the drop zone after beating Wakiso Giants 1-0 on Wednesday. The Stars are now in 12th position, with 27 points from 25 games. Police FC, Mbarara City and Tooro United languish in the relegation zone of the 16-team league.
The league takes a one-day break and returns on Friday (April 22) with Express FC hosting Arua-based Onduparaka FC at the Mutesa II stadium in Wankulukuku. Police FC will entertain URA FC at the Phillip Omondi stadium, Lugogo in the other match on Friday.
