KAMPALA: Deputy Speaker of Parliament Anita Among has revealed that Speaker Jacob Oulanyah is now improving and can speak to people.
Addressing plenary on Thursday, February 17, 2022, Among said there is hope that the speaker will soon be back.
“Honourable Jacob Oulanyah is now in a very good state. He has been able to talk to a number of you. I can comfortably tell you people (legislators) that God is good,” Among said without giving any other further details.
Oulanyah also tweeted on Thursday: “Fellow Ugandans, my deepest appreciation for your well-wishes and prayers. I wish you God’s blessings.”
Oulanyah travelled out of the country for treatment on February 4 aboard the Uganda Airlines Bus A330-800 neo with the registration code 5X-NIL to Seattle, United States.
As reported by this website recently, President Museveni ordered for specialised treatment for Oulanyah who has been in and out of hospital since assuming office.
The speaker was last seen in parliament on December 21, 2021. Last year, shortly after his swearing-in as speaker, Oulanyah disappeared from the public eye for a month after presiding over parliament at the reading of the 2021/2022 financial year budget at Kololo Independence grounds.
His deputy Among has mostly been in charge of the parliamentary business since the beginning of the term in May, a matter that triggered speculation about his health. Reports had initially indicated that Oulanyah was battling COVID-19.
