FIXTURES:
Friday, January 28@3pm:
PCCP v Express FC
Ten-time winners, Express FC, will be out to avoid any upset from fourth division side PCCP when they begin their campaign in this year’s Stanbic Uganda Cup on Friday, January 28.
Express Coach Wasswa Bbosa is wary of the threat that lower division teams like PCCP pose against topflight sides in this knockout tournament.
In recent days, several topflight teams, including 2019 Stanbic Uganda Cup winners Proline FC, have exited the competition at the hands of lowly-ranked teams.
Accordingly, Bbosa is not taking Makindye-based PCCP for granted.
“We respect them (PCCP); they are a good team with good coaches but our focus is on trying to win that game and advance to the next round,” Bbosa stated in a pre-match media briefing on Thursday.
The round-of-64 game will be played at the Phillip Omondi stadium, Lugogo.
Express will be without inspirational striker Eric Kambale (on trials for possible transfer to a foreign club) and the injured trio of Godfrey Lwesibawa, Murushid Jjuuko, and Arthur Kiggundu. But the Red Eagles welcome back Abel Eturude, who has recovered from injury.
The last time Express won the Stanbic Uganda Cup was way back in 2007. Last season, they were knocked out of this tournament at the semi-final stage by BUL FC.
