KAMPALA: The Government of Uganda, along with the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, celebrated World Urban Day on October 29 at the Africana Hotel.
Speaking to the Media, under the theme, “Better city, better life: making climate change for climate change”, Minister of State for Urban Development, Hon. Kania Obiga said that, “The government, through its implementation of the USMID-AF program in the community, will promote increased awareness of climate change and local stability, stimulate public debate on the current state of cities and will stimulate effective action against climate change at the local level by disseminating information about effective solutions for local climate change and promoting awareness”
Although the event falls on October 31, the event will run from Friday, October 29 to November 8, 2021 in Uganda.
Through the USMID-AF program, the ministry plans a week of media engagement on all media platforms to promote this year’s theme and focus on cities that are prone to environmental disasters due to the concentration of socio-economic assets. bottom.
The Adaptation City Initiative for Climate Resilience helps targeted cities and their residents to mitigate and respond to the risks posed by the predictable and unpredictable shocks and tensions of climate change.
In line with the objectives of community planning to improve strategies for environmental protection, climate change, mitigation and adaptation. Local governments can account for the implementation of local community policies in terms of local and international policies for rural and climatic conditions.
