On a daily basis, we’re all called upon to make choices. Sometimes, we clearly have to choose between one thing or the other. At other times, we can choose from several options (with differing levels of advantage). At all times, whatever we choose matters because every choice comes with consequences. The basis of these consequences is the action we take based on our choice.
The process of choosing starts as a mental process. We must carefully think about, and interrogate, our options. But in reality our choices are manifested physically through our actions. A mental assent to the Lordship of Jesus Christ, for example, is insufficient. Our actions ought to be in line with the values that Jesus Christ proposes. And we have to carefully examine, on a daily basis, whether what we’re doing is in accord with God’s will. Are we truly doing what we profess?
May Jesus Christ grant us the grace to make life-ward choices.
