It’s very easy for us to take for granted the marvellous blessings poured into our lives. For example, we may grumble instead of appreciating. As we deal with fellow humans, we don’t realise we’re treading on holy ground (and we desecrate them). We sin when we clearly could have done better (however broadly you define sin).We throw away our opportunities for growth and ultimate salvation. We don’t produce the fruit expected of us.
Yet somehow, we don’t seem to see the adverse consequences that would be expected. We may even be tempted to imagine that this is because of our “holiness” and ingenuity. We forget that every moment that we have is an opportunity to grow in love of God and others, to become better, to change. After all, we don’t know how much more time we still have.
May Jesus Christ grant us the grace of true conversion—a conversion that enables us to see the image of God, and so the sacred, in every human being.
May Almighty God bless you, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
