Vipers SC extended their lead in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League to four points, thanks to a comfortable 2-0 victory over Busoga United on Wednesday, March 16.
SC Villa, meantime, ended their winless streak by beating Gaddafi FC 1-0 on the same evening and the Jogoos have now revived their chances of going into a relegation dogfight.
It was a nervy start for Vipers after Bright Anakuni missed a penalty in the opening five minutes at the St Mary’s stadium, Kitende. However, Hilary Mukundane and Paul Mucurezi scored later on to cool the nerves as the home side sealed a 2-0 victory.
Vipers now have 46 points from 21 games and are four points better than second-placed KCCA FC. This victory is also a good morale booster for Vipers as they prepare to take on KCCA in next week’s top-of-the-table clash.
At FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru, Benson Muhindo scored for Villa to win 1-0 over Gaddafi FC. It is a vital victory for the Jogoos, who still remain in danger with just 22 points (from 21 games) and are now in eleventh position, two places above the drop zone.
Arua-based Onduparaka FC were also winners on the evening after beating Mbarara City FC 1-0. Shaban Muhammad netted the solitary winner.
The league takes a one-day break and returns Friday, March 18 with Express FC hosting URA FC in a highly-billed match at Mutesa II stadium in Wankulukuku.
