KAMPALA: The abrupt cancellation of flights by Emirates Airlines from Uganda has not only affected business travellers but also local football after Fufa called off the Cranes’ trip to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for international friendly matches.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, December 28, Emirates announced a temporary suspension of their flights out of Uganda.
The Cranes were scheduled to fly out on Wednesday night (December 29) to Abu Dhabi ahead of scheduled friendly games against Gabon and Mauritania on December 30 and January 1, 2022, respectively.
Fufa spokesman Ahmed Hussein told this website that they had already booked the cranes on Emirates and they could not get alternative flights in a short time.
“We couldn’t spend more (money) and organise in a short time, so logistically, it does not add up,” Marsha told us on Wednesday, December 29.
Meanwhile, the Uganda Premier League resumes Wednesday afternoon with Mbarara City FC hosting Gaddafi FC at Kakyeka stadium and Police FC hosting Bright Stars at Phillip Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.
