As the world prepares for the 70th Miss World beauty pageant, nder the theme “beauty with a purpose”, more than 100 countries will have to think about how best to approach the competition with Uganda in mind. This is because the last Ugandan representative in the competition in 2018, Quiin Abenakyo, performed so well that she became fifth overall and first in Africa.
This time around, Uganda will go to great lengths not only to make sure the current Miss Uganda winner wins, but also sells the country as a tourist destination.
“We are privileged that the former Miss Uganda did so well. Miss Abenakyo did it so brilliantly that we were able to host the Miss World team here. Now we want to make sure the world realizes that not only do we have beautiful and smart girls, but we also have the best when it comes to tourist attractions, “says Minister of Tourism Hon. Bahinduka.
Uganda will be represented by Elizabeth Bagaya, a 26-year-old graduate in human resources management and a professional make-up artist.
Miss Bagaya, who was first runner up in the latest beauty pageant, received the green light after reigning Miss Uganda 2020/2021 Oliver Nakakande chose to go to study in Dubai.
And the 26-year-old who also runs the Bagaya Elizabeth Foundation, which helps provide financial and mental support to the children of Butabika hospital, has the opportunity to surprise the world once again.
And having been named one of the best candidates for Miss World Africa by bookmakers, the country is urging the beauty queen to fire her in Puerto Rico, the host country of the Miss World pageant that will get the world noticed.
“We are grateful to stunning Uganda and Miss Uganda for hosting the farewell party not only to boost the young woman’s confidence, but also to make sure we take the opportunity to market Uganda,” added the minister.
The farewell that began with a beautiful independence getaway trip to western Uganda saw Miss Bagaya along with the Minister of State for Tourism, Mr. Bahinduka, take a 4-day trip to Lake Mburo, Igongo and the island of Gahiza, armed with photographic equipment to capture some of the good moments that will serve to showcase Uganda in the final.
And from November 5th to 7th, the beauty queen from Fort Portal will be in her hometown o receive a warm sendoff by the natives of Fort Portal tourism city. She heads to Puerto Rico for the Miss World beauty pageant in late November 2021.
According to the Speaker of the Parliament, the Miss World platform offers us a great opportunity to attract the rest of the world to Uganda. “The Miss World platform is a perfect setting to showcase Uganda. We ask Miss Bagaya to be the best she can be. We are behind her, “said Mr. Oulanya.
