KAMPALA: On Friday 25th, the StateHouse Anti-Corruption Unit arraigned Abila Benington Okello at the Anti-Corruption Court. He has been charged with embezzling hospital equipment and has been remanded.
In the month of December 2021, Abila Benington Okello, a dark room attendant/radiology staff at Arua Regional Referral Hospital, stole components of the digital X-ray machine which is used for screening TB.
It was revealed that an HP laptop, Canon software, and a Samsung Galaxy phone were all missing from the main store of the Arua Regional Referral Hospital. The value of the equipment is about 15,000 Euros.
During an investigation by the Anti-Corruptopm Unit, it was discovered that Okello had used the aforementioned hospital assets as collateral to get a loan of Shs1.2 million from Furah Link Ventures Financial Limited, which he reportedly failed to repay.
When questioned by police, he revealed that he had mortgaged them for a loan and led the Police to the financial institution.
The assets were recovered and exhibited.
