The Kyabazinga of Busoga, HRH Gabula Nadiope IV, has asked members of the Education Policy Review Commission (EPRC) to come up with policies that will help Busoga University, a new public institution of higher education in the subregion, offer better education.
Gabula told members of the EPRC at his palace in Jinja on Monday that 70% of the sub region’s population is made up of young people who need a good higher education to be able to work in the innovation and job creation fields.
Gabulaargues thatthet lack of a public higher learning institution has deterred several youths from transforming into professionals with the requisite skills to prosper in their careers, and he is hopeful that with the current government takeoverof Busoga Universityy, thesub-region will seer improved education standards.
Gabula says that if the government wants to improve the quality of career professionals, it should offer more bursaries through Busoga University than the current 200. This would help the growing number of high school students who want to go to college.
He also wants the education ministry to improve the infrastructure of the university and turn it into a research centre for the sub-region.
Gabula also wants the government to revamp traditional schools within the sub-region, which he says are the epitome of instilling cultural and moral values amongst children in the course of maturing through their tender ages.
Gabula also asked the ministry of education to encourage the building of standard sports facilities in the sub-region so that the sports talents that are already there can grow and get better.
Amanya Mushega, who is the chairperson of the EPRC, says that the Busoga sub-region was their first stop before their nationwide consultative meetings, which are meant to bring together different stakeholders to talk about their ideal education system.
