KAMPALA: Minister of State for Education and Sports (Higher Education), Dr. John Chrysostom Muyingo has warned some private learning institutions that have already set reopening dates before the official government school calendar.
Without waiting for the official school academic calendar, some private schools have embarked on developing their own calendar with reopening dates starting from January 3, 2022.
But Dr Muyingo said schools should follow and implement the official calendar which is soon to be released by the Education ministry.
The education ministry has confirmed that all children of school-going age will return to school come January 10.
As part of the plan, the ministry says, even children enrolled at early childhood development centres, also known as nursery schools, will report on the same day.
President Museveni stated last month that the economy will reopen with or without vaccination come January 2022.
But to both the teaching staff and support staff of schools, Muyingo emphasised the need to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
The government set a target to vaccinate at least 550,000 teachers and support staff, and also 31,000 learners who are 18 years and above.
“Take vaccination seriously. It is part of the plan to reopen all schools,” he said.
