Two suspects, Sadick Mwesigye, 46, and James Kaahwa, 60, both residents of Rwomubazi cell in Buhimba town council, Kikuube district, are currently in custody at the Kikuube central police station on allegations of murdering Henry Benjamin Kaija, a 64-year-old retired teacher and fellow resident. The incident occurred on Saturday night at an unknown time.
Kaija was last seen in good health on Saturday evening, according to his grandson, Hillary Barungi. The family was shocked to discover his lifeless body lying in a pool of blood in his garden on Sunday morning. Upon making the discovery, the family promptly alerted the police, who quickly initiated an investigation.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, reported that detectives used a sniffer dog at the crime scene, leading to the apprehension of the two suspects. The deceased had suffered deep cuts to his head, neck, and hands.
Hakiza mentioned that the suspects, currently held at Kikuube police station, will face charges of murder once investigations are complete. The deceased’s body has been handed over to the relatives for burial arrangements after a postmortem was conducted.
The postmortem report revealed that the cause of death was excessive bleeding resulting from the injuries inflicted by the assailants. Investigations are ongoing, and the authorities are committed to ensuring a thorough examination of the case.
