KAMPALA: The State House Anti-Corruption Unit has halted the eviction of residents of Mutungo and Butabika from contested land until KCCA and the ministry of lands pronounces it’s self on the ownership.
Investigations currently reveal that the land is a gazetted swamp owned by the government, but residents are evicting each other following the expression of interest from the Uganda National Roads Authority to probably compensate occupants ahead of the ongoing Kampala-Jinja Expressway road project.
Col Edith Nakalema, flanked by Allen Kagina, the executive director of UNRA, have told the locals there that land in swamps or wetlands cannot be titled nor sold or owned.
Col Edith Nakalema has ordered police not to allow any evictions until investigations are complete on how agencies in the government issued titles in the swamp.
