Police have said they have detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) that had been carried to Miracle Centre Cathedral in Kampala that is run by Pastor Kayanja.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango, the bomb was in form of a food flask carried by a one Kintu Ibrahim. Police is now in search of other 3 IEDs potential to cause a terror attack, he said.

Speaking to journalists outside the church, Pastor Kayanja said a suspected suicide bomber was intercepted before he entered the church and police’s bomb squad was called in to conduct ‘control detonation

He thanked God for his protection, saying the bomb could have blown off the whole church.
“This guy knew what he was doing; he put a bomb in a flask to hurt people. We thank God for the protection and we thank the security agencies for their vigilance,” he said.

Mr Onyango, said that the suspected terrorist has been arrested and warns that three more bombs are still in public.

“There are terrorists who are still interested in hitting us. We picked intelligence today morning that places of worship would be hit and that one terrorist had been sent today. So we sent out our counter intelligence team who followed him,” he said.

He said the bomb-making team denoted the explosive, which was made up of nails, a motorcycle battery, a charger and a mobile phone.

Onyango said they are looking for a SIM card used in the whole process.

He said they have interrogated the 28-year-old suspect who said there are his three other colleagues who have been sent to plant bombs.

This comes after several alert messages began circulating on social media, warning about an impending attack on Uganda.
Past attacks on Uganda have been said to have been masterminded by ADF, which operates in DRC. They are said to have been behind a terror attack in Kampala in 2021 that claimed several lives and left others injured.
