The Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Mr Mathias Mpuuga, has warned that some cliques within the National Unity Platform (NUP) are trying to discredit the opposition’s efforts to take on the NRM.
According to Mpuuga, some NUP supporters are frustrating efforts by some party leaders to defeat the ruling government.
He made the remarks at the weekend during the last funeral rites of Edward Ssetaba at Kyankumu village in Kalungu district.
Mpuuga some of their supporters who are using different platforms to abuse and insult NUP leaders, including him, claiming that they are in bed with the ruling NRM.
Nevertheless, he said that while the country appears to be ready and energized for a political transition and nothing will undermine their efforts..
He described such individuals as ignorant about ng the party’s efforts to take over state power.
This comes after Mpuuga was accused of negotiating the release of Makindye West and Kawempe North MPs Allan Ssewanyana and Muhammad Ssegirinya, who had spent 16 months on remand over multiple murders and terrorism charges.
But Mpuuga has denied being party to such efforts.
Francis Kamulegeya, the Kyankumu LCI Chairperson had earlier expressed disappointment with the emerging internal bickering in the party’s top leadership organs, arguing that they are frustrating their mobilization efforts at the grassroots levels.
“We are looking forward to having a common voice by our leadership such that our members are well guided for the mission towards having a new Uganda,” he noted.
