Police in Kampala are hunting for three men who gang raped a 22-year-old woman on Sunday as she jogged in Namugongo, Kira Municipality, Kampala.
Police spokesman Fred Enanga told journalists at a press conference on Monday, November 28, that the female jogger was attacked and gang rapped by three men with pangas at around 4.30am.
“Our police in Kira and Namugongo are actively investigating this incident that happened on the 27th November, 2022, at around 4:30 am in Namugongo,” he said.
“We want to caution the public that when they are going out jogging, they should go jogging in groups and well-lit places. Also, avoid wearing headphones and earbuds while running as it prevents one from hearing their surrounding,” he added.
Attacks on people doing early morning jogging are on the rise. In July, the LC III councillor of Kamwokya in Kampala, James Kakooza, was killed by unknown assailants during his routine morning jog.
The assailants hit Kakooza twice with a hammer on the head around 06:30 am.
In 2019, Kampala Central Police Station Criminal Investigations Commander Joshua Tusingwire was hit with a blunt object while jogging on Mutungo hill.
His attackers reportedly left him unconscious after robbing his phone and some other valuables.
