It will be an interesting menu on the card at the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Qatar on Wednesday (November 23) with two former champions Germany and Spain in action as they kick off their campaign at this year’s tournament.
First in action will be Germany, who last won the World Cup in 2014,take on the unpredictable Japan side at 4pm. Two hours later, Spain, the 2010 World Cup winners, play Costa Rica in a game widely expected to be an easy one for the European giants.
In the lunchtime kick-off, Morocco, one of Africa’s representatives at the World Cup, take on Croatia while Belgium and Canada battle in the late night (10pm) game.
Meanwhile, defending champions France overcame an early scare as they rallied from a goal down to beat Australia 4-1 on Tuesday (November 22) night.
Olivier Giroud scored two goals, Adrien Rabiot and Kylian Mbappe added one apiece for the champions to make a perfect start in the tournament.
The Les Blues, as France’s national side are nicknamed, have been subject of discussion to due to injuries that ruled the likes of Paul Pogba, Karim Benzema and Ngolo Kante out of the tournament in Qatar.
In earlier games played on Tuesday, Saudi Arabia upset former champions Argentina 2-1 in the biggest shock of the tournament so far.
Tunisia, one of Africa’s five representatives, held Denmark to a goalless draw. Mexico and Poland also settled for a goalless draw.
