Burkina Faso 2 Uganda Crested Cranes 2
Morocco 1 Senegal 0
The Uganda Crested Cranes’ journey at the ongoing 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Finals ended on a positive note with a 2-2 draw against Burkina Faso in their final Group A match.
It was a dramatic game played on Friday (July 8) at the Stade Mohamed V in the Moroccan capital, Rabat.
Margaret Kunihira scored for the Crested Cranes after eight minutes before Adama Congo equalised for the Burkinabe in the 35th minute of the first half. Burkina Faso were reduced to 10 players after Madinatou Rouamba was sent off in the 17th minute for foulplay.
Sandra Nabweteme restored the Crested Cranes’ lead in the 38th minute but there was more drama as Burkina Faso equalised again through Adele Kabre in the 41st minute.
The Crested Cranes lost to Senegal (0-2) and Morocco (1-3) in the earlier group games, which means they exit the tournament with a single point from three matches. They finished bottom of the group, though.
In the other Group A game played at the same time on Friday, tournament hosts Morocco beat Senegal 1-0 to win the group with maximum (nine) points from three games. Chizlane Chebbak converted a 55th minute penalty for Morocco.
Senegal, who also beat Burkina Faso 1-0, finished runners-up in the group with six points from three matches. They progress to the quarterfinals alongside Morocco.
