Newly-appointed Police FC coach Angelo Lonyensi has vowed to return the cops to the topflight division after one season.
Speaking at his unveiling function to the media on Friday, July 1, Lonyensi, who comes back to the Police FC ranks for the second time in less than 10 years, stated: “The task before me is to take Police FC to where we belong and I promise within one year the deal will be done.”
Police were relegated from the StarTimes Uganda Premier League to the lower FUFA Big League two months ago. The team had been in the topflight for 27 years.
Lonyensi last coached Police FC in 2016. His experience, which spans 20 years in coaching, will come in handy as Police fight to return to the elite division.
Last season, Police FC’s problems included on-and-off pitch struggles such as player salary delays, administrative wrangles and failure by former coach Abdallah Mubiru to control the dressing room.
Lonyensi is optimistic all logistical issues will be sorted before the team begins its campaign in the new FUFA Big League season slated to kick off in August. He has also been assured of funds to beef up the squad with some key players before the season gets under way.
