YMCA Comprehensive Institute v Makerere University@Buwambo
YMCA Comprehensive Institute are in search of their maiden win in this season of the Pepsi University Football League as they host Makerere University on Thursday, May 19 at Buwambo in matchday four of Group D.
The Buwambo-based side is yet to win a game this season, having lost on matchday one to Makerere University and on match days two and three against St. Lawrence University and Mbarara University of Science and Technology.
According to the new YMCA coach, Allan Katwe, the game against Makerere is a must-win if they are to improve their hopes of qualifying for the knockout stage this season.
“This is a very important game and anything short of a win will leave us in danger of failing to go past the group stage level,” Katwe said in a pre-match media briefing on Wednesday, May 18.
“We have been playing well but have been unfortunate in front of the goal. Looking at how we played against Makerere at their home I am optimistic that we shall win this game because we had a good display and the goal, we conceded was a penalty,” Katwe added.
Meanwhile, Makerere will have almost qualified from the group should they collect maximum points as they did in the first leg against YMCA.
And Makerere’s coach William Kasozi has indicated that maintaining grip on top Group D is their ultimate goal and they will be searching for a positive result when they visit YMCA.
Kasozi said: “We are also not yet through to the next stage despite leading the group so we know how important the three points against YMCA will mean to us.”
“The team in the second position is just two points behind us that means we have to win on Thursday so that we stretch our lead on top.”
Meanwhile, the game between defending champions Uganda Christian University and Kumi University that was scheduled for this Friday, May 20 at Mukono at 3pm has been pushed forward to Saturday, May 21 at the same venue and time.
