KAMPALA: The First Son and Commander of the Land Forces, Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, on Tuesday hosted friends to a dinner at State House to celebrate his 48th birthday. Also present was President Paul Kagame of Rwanda. Here are some of the key quotes from the dinner.
“I was absolutely aware and convinced, in accepting to meet Muhoozi that it was his father who was behind the message. I was under no illusion that it was Muhoozi operating on his own,” President Paul Kagame.
“I could see that the conversation was that of peace and resolving problems between Uganda and Rwanda,” Kagame.
“I share these experiences with those who have been on the battlefield. Great generals are those who fight and win wars. Greater generals are those who win peace,” Kagame.
“I congratulate Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba upon making 48 years on earth. You, people, call him Muhoozi but I call him Muwooji because while in exile in Dar-es-Salaam, our neighbour was Gen Tito Okello (RIP), he couldn’t pronounce the name Muhoozi.
I once again congratulate Lt Gen Muhoozi. To the parents, listen to what your young people say, give them your opinion, but don’t suppress them. That’s what I have been doing for my children, you may be suppressing something good,” President Museveni
“I would like to thank H.E Paul Kagame, we are happy that you responded to Lt Gen Muhoozi’s invitation and came. President Kagame and Muhoozi have a long history together. They are old friends. – President Museveni
“I thank God for letting me live up to this day and taking me through everything in life, I give God the honour,” Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
“Lt Gen Muhoozi was a gift to us in our young days of struggle. He was born on 24th April 1974 at Kurasini, Dar es Salam, Mama Janet was driven to the hospital by a Dutch Lady. The following day, I rang Samora Machel to inform him of the news,” President Museveni
“Muhoozi was a Special Messenger. When I received Muhoozi, I had been getting emissaries from the President and Govt to talk about the difficulties. From the beginning I knew the messages and messenger would be no different from the usual ones,” Kagame.
