KAMPALA: Police in Kampala have arrested four medical officers from Women’s Hospital International and Fertility Clinic Bukoto on suspicion of carelessness after what is alleged to have been a botched Intrauterine Device (IUD) implantation. The personnel were detained at the hospital’s Bukoto location.
According to reports, the contraceptive gadget was implanted in the uterus of a newlywed wife.
One day after going down the aisle with Mr. Derrick Wabwire, she slipped into a coma minutes after the surgery was completed.
At the fertility hospital, Ms. Joan Namutebi went unconscious, and she was subsequently moved to Victoria Hospital in what has been characterized as an “extremely severe situation.”
According to Mr. Charles Twiine, a spokesman for the Criminal Investigations Directorate, the four medical staff have been arrested at the Kira Road Police Station while investigations into the event continue.
According to the investigations, Ms. Namutebi and Mr. Wabwire were married on Friday last week before attending a fertility facility the following day for birth control methods.
According to the police, medical officials examined Namutebi and discovered that her uterus was in the incorrect position.
“The physicians recommended she drink some water, which she did without hesitation.
After that, they placed an IUD coil in the woman’s uterus.
In an interview on Tuesday, Mr. Twiine said that after the surgery, she began to have stomach discomfort, experienced a severe headache, and collapsed while in the hospital.
He said that they had learned that the woman was in the middle of her menstrual cycle at the time the IUD was inserted.
In addition, he stated, “Our medical investigators have informed us that it is not permissible to put an IUD during a woman’s menstrual cycle.” “We are also doing more medical investigations to determine the root cause of the health concern,” he said.
Response from the hospital
Mr. Arthur Matsiko, a representative for the hospital, acknowledged that Ms. Namutebi had visited their institution as a customer, but said that they were unable to determine what had caused the health difficulty.
“I can’t really say very well that the state in which she now finds herself is a consequence of the operation she received.”
I’ve spoken to physicians, and they say that they’ve never heard of somebody getting into this kind of trouble after getting an IUD, Mr. Matsiko said.
He said that they were hopeful that the truth would come out as a result of the police investigations.
