NTOROKO: Security agencies at the Uganda- DR Congo border in Ntoroko district have arrested 10 suspected members of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels who were attempting to cross to Uganda.
The group was intercepted on two different occasions last week.
Ntoroko Resident District Commissioner Mishac Kawamara said the suspects were arrested during screening of Congolese refugees entering the district from DR Congo.
“We have been receiving refugees from DR Congo who enter Uganda through Ntoroko district, last week we received some refugees but our security managed to identify one of suspect to be ADF rebel, he was arrested and later confessed that he deserted from ADF rebels in DR Congo,” the RDC said on Monday.
He said the suspect led them to arrest more others who had crossed to Ntoroko district disguised as refugees.
“On Sunday, he helped us to arrest three of his colleagues, he managed to identify 6 suspected ADF rebels from Bubukwanga refugees’ transit center in Bundibugyo district and others from Rwamabale screening center in Ntoroko district,” he said.
“The arrested suspects are all male and they are now in our custody being handled by CMI and our security teams are deployed everywhere to ensure that there is security in the district. We have started sensitizing communities to report to us in case they come across people they don’t know in their communities,” he added.
On October 23, terror suspects detonated an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at Uncle Sam’s and Ronnie’s pork joints at Komamboga.
The next Monday, a suspected suicide bomber, Isaac Matovu, allegedly detonated an IED on a Swift Safari bus that was travelling from Kampala City to Greater Bushenyi region. The bomber was killed in the blast and several passengers injured included a Greater Bushenyi Regional Police Commander.
President Museveni accused the Allied Democratic Forces rebels of carrying out the attacks.
He said Matovu was on their wanted list and he had been part of the group of terrorists that attempted to carry out a suicide attack at the burial of Late Lt Gen Paul Lokech, the Deputy Inspector General of Police, in August in Pader District. The alleged attack was foiled after one of the masterminds was arrested in a guest house. The other was shot dead along Gayaza Road days later.
