KAMPALA: UMC Victoria hospital has been awarded a certificate by the International Standards Organisation (ISO) for quality management and meeting the patients’ expectations.
ISO is an international body that develops standards to ensure the quality, safety and efficiency of products, services and systems.
ISO components include health data management, client management, quality assurance, handling and care of medicine and achievement of health objective.
Speaking to the media while unveiling the certificates in Kampala at the weekend, the chief medical officer of UMC Victoria Hospital, Dr Edrin Jjuko, explained that the ISO certificate was awarded to them after several months of capacity building of staff and systems development.
“The ISO certification is an important milestone for UMC Victoria Hospital and the entire health sectors and demonstrates a desire to seek excellence in the quality of our health service delivery,” he said.
Dr Jjuko added that the hospital has been working hard to reach international standards and to be able to compete with other health facilities across the world in terms of providing excellent health services.
“Currently if you are to be deemed a reliable supplier of a world service or production worldwide, you should be able to get ISO 9001 standard certificate. This will result in trust and reliability of your output,” he said.
