Police warns revellers travelling to Tanzania for New Year’s festivities

MUTUKULA: Police in Kyotera district have issued a warning to all Ugandans planning to cross to Tanzania for New Year's Eve concerts expected in areas near the Ugandan border. One of the performances is scheduled to be organised by Abitex Promotions, which was responsible for the major Christmas concert held at a hotel in Mutukula, Tanzania, featuring more than 20 Ugandan performers. Such performances were declared illegal in Uganda two years ago as part of the country's efforts to combat the COVID-19 epidemic. Despite the fact that Uganda continues to impose restrictions, her neighbours have already relaxed restrictions and dropped the evening curfew, providing citizens more time to socialise. This time, however, the Uganda Police, in collaboration with Tanzanian immigration authorities, have issued a warning that anyone attempting to illegally cross the border will be arrested and prosecuted.
