CAPE TOWN: Uganda’s netball team, She Cranes overpowered Scotland 54-47 in their second build-up game played on Wednesday in preparation for the World Cup tournament that throws-off in Cape Town, South this Friday.
The game played at the Cape Town University drew Uganda’s coaches into the true picture of what to expect starting Friday when the girls face Singapore in the opening fixture at the International Convention Centre.
Uganda beat Barbados 54-33 in a one-sided game on Sunday but the Scottish proved a threat – taking the first quarter 12-11 before the Fred Mugerwa coached side could wake-up in the subsequent quarters. She Cranes were 25-23 up at half time before returning to finish business –taking a 38-36 and 54-47 lead by the sound of the last whistle.
“We still have some challenges especially when we lose the ball but we shall keep on correcting our mistakes,” Mugerwa after the build-up.
UK based shooter, Mary Nuba, who only joined the team in South Africa, a few days ago, will lead the Ugandan squad.
Uganda starts the campaign against Singapore on Friday before meeting defending champions, New Zealand the following day, and completing their group D engagements against Trinidad and Tobago on July 30.
Uganda is making its fourth appearance at this competition, which has attracted the best 16 teams in the world – meeting on the African continent for the first time.
