The Board of Directors for the Arua-based Onduparaka Football Club has announced the appointment of Anthony Afeti as the new club president. “Mr. Afeti Anthony is our new club president replacing Mr. Benjamin Nyakuni who Gracefully held that position since our inception”, reads part of the statement on the club’s official Facebook page.
The decision was made during the board meeting held Wednesday, June 28, 2023. The statement expressed gratitude to Nyakuni for his contributions since the inception of the club. The appointment of Afeti comes shortly after the club unveiled a new management structure aimed at ushering in a new era for the team.
This restructuring follows Onduparaka FC’s relegation from the StarTimes Uganda Premier League to the FUFA Big League in May of this year. Godfrey Drabe, the club’s media, and public relations Officer, confirmed the appointment, explaining that the delay in the announcement was due to the absence of a clear management structure at the club in previous years.
Anthony Afeti has a history with Onduparaka FC, having previously worked as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Operations Manager of the club. He later joined Arua Hill Sports Club in 2020, where he served as the CEO of the Uganda Premier League side. However, in January of this year, his contract with Arua Hill was mutually terminated.
Afeti expressed his immediate goals as ensuring Onduparaka FC’s swift return to the StarTimes Uganda Premier League after just one season in the FUFA Big League. He also emphasized his intention to initiate a membership registration process for the club’s fans, giving them a voice in the club’s management.
Onduparaka Football Club gained promotion to the top-flight league in Uganda during the 2015/2016 season but was relegated to the FUFA Big League following a 1-0 defeat against Maroons. Under the leadership of Anthony Afeti, the club aims to regain its position in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League and further engage the club’s passionate fanbase.
