Super Eagles v SC Villa
Stung by a lack of goals that has led to his team’s poor performance in recent months, SC Villa coach Petros Koukouras introduced new tactics on set pieces in a bid to end the Jogoos’ goal-drought.
Speaking at a media briefing on Sunday (March 6), Koukouras disclosed they have been perfecting the technique of taking free-kicks and corners in their last two training sessions.
“We have particularly worked on perfecting set pieces because they have been one of our weaknesses ever since the season started. For now every game we play is like a final; it does not matter which team we play,” Koukouras said.
SC Villa, coming off a 1-0 defeat to Busoga United in the league last week, play Gulu-based lower division Super Eagles in the delayed Stanbic Uganda Cup match on Monday, March 7.
The round-of-32 match was called off last month when Villa players got involved in road accident at Migyera while travelling to Gulu for the game.
Villa are optimistic they will go past Super Eagles to meet traditional rivals Express FC in the last-16 stage of the knockout tournament.
With poor results in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League (where they are eleventh with just 18 points from 19 games and close to the relegation zone), the Jogoos only remaining realistic chance for silverware this season is the Stanbic Uganda Cup.
