President Museveni has revealed that UPDF fighter jets on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, bombed ADF targets in Congo, killing an unspecified number of rebels.
In a statement issued on Thursday, 05 October 2023, the President said the UPDF jets hit three targets in the Mambasa territory area.
“I need to inform you that yesterday, the 4th of October, 2023, our fighter- bombers paid another visit to the terrorists, quite some distance inside Congo, in the Mambasa territory area. They attacked 3 targets, 180kms, 184kms and 200kms, respectively, from the border on the Ntoroko side,” he announced.
The President hailed the army for the reconnaissance mission led to that attack.
“I congratulate the Air-force, the Special Duties Regiment (SDR) and UPDF in general, on the good work they are doing to protect our Congolese brothers and sisters as well as Ugandans from these spoilt actors who are, moreover, ignorant of what war actually means.” He said.
“They have been inviting us to pay attention to them by killing Ugandans and we are now responding to the invitation. The attacks are invariably precise and we shall find out, after some time, who and how many terrorists died. It is futile and very dangerous to the individuals involved, to think that they can kill Ugandans and be safe themselves,” he added.
Mr Museveni also saluted his DR Congo counterpart, Felix Tshisekedi “for agreeing to work with us and allowing us to assist them and, in the process, assist ourselves as Ugandans.”
This comes less than a month after the UPDF launched yet another offensive of air and artillery against the Allied Democratic Forces targeting mainly new camps for the group.
Uganda and the DRC government recently extended the agreement for the joint operations between the UPDF and FARDC .
Under the new arrangement, the operation was extended to the territory of Mambasa in Ituri province where the ADF fighters have run to.
The new area of operation would see the ADF followed to the western part of the Luna-Komanda road, particularly in the chiefdoms of Babila Bakwanza and Babila Babombi, in Mambasa territory.
