England outclassed African champions Senegal in a 3-0 victory on Sunday (December 4) night to set up a crunch quarterfinal tie with France, the defending champions of the FIFA World Cup.
Goals by Jordan Henderson, Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka sunk Senegal who were a shadow of themselves in comparison to earlier games ever since the World Cup Finals kicked off in Qatar two weeks ago.
It was a disappointing show from the Senegalese who were widely expected to keep Africa’s flame burning at the tournament. They now leave Morocco as the only African representative surviving in Qatar. Morocco face Spain on Tuesday, December 6 with a quarterfinal berth at stake.
Meanwhile, France beat Poland 3-1 earlier on Sunday to sail into the quarterfinals where they will play England on Saturday, December 10.
The round-of-16 games continue on Monday (December 5) with former world champions and hot favourites Brazil playing against South Korea and Japan take on Croatia.
