KAMPALA: Robert Kyalgulanyi, better known as “Bobi Wine,” is the leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP). He has said that some politicians are making Ugandans hate each other.
On Sunday, a former presidential candidate said that some politicians in Uganda are taking advantage of the death of the former Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Oulanyah, to make people angry, especially between the Acholi and Buganda people.
He explained that it is unrealistic for politicians to promote disunity instead of fighting for a common goal and promoting good governance in the country. The NUP President was giving a speech to hundreds of people at Holy Rosary Church in Gulu City’s weekly Sunday mass.
When Bobi Wine went to the meeting, he was joined by Dr. Olara Otunnu from the Uganda Peoples Congress Party, the Reverend Fr. Charles Onen, the Member of Parliament for Gulu East, and a few other people.
Tomorrow, he will go to the sub-county of Lalogi, where Jacob Oulanyah, the Speaker of Parliament, was laid to rest on Friday, to pay his respects.
Bobi Wine has to apologise to the Acholi community because some NUP members and Buganda protested and yelled about how late Speaker Jacob Oulanyah was treated in the United States.
Bobi Wine, however, explained that Ugandans both in the diaspora and back home, regardless of their political affiliations and tribes, were protesting against bad governance and demanding better health services, among other things.
This is what Justin Erick Uma, the parish priest of Holy Rosary, said during the mass. He told politicians in the country not to be dishonest and not to do bad things.
He warned that the church leaders would not hesitate to rally the masses to protest and remove bad leaders from power. His statements were welcomed with ululation from the congregation.
At the same mass, legislator Rev. Fr. Charles Onen disclosed that the Ker Kwaro is investigating claims that Oulanyah was poisoned.
