SHEEMA: The former Greater Bushenyi district LC V Chairperson and also Senior Presidential advisor on Politics Canon Yowasi Rwamango Makaaru 83, has died. He died Monday evening in Mikyerere cell, Central Division, Sheema Municipality.
Makaaru, who served as Greater Bushenyi LC V chairperson from 2001 to 2006, succeeded Mzee Wiliam Mukaira. Residents, lawmakers, and elders thank him for building the modern Bushenyi District Headquarters.
In 2006, he ran for the Bushenyi District NRM party seat against Interior Minister Kahinda Otafiire. Makaaru was running for re-election as Bushenyi LC V chairperson until he retired.
Ishanga Longino Ndyanabo, who succeeded Makaaru in 2006, remembered the deceased as a very expressive teacher. He adds Makaaru, who backed the UPC, eventually backed Museveni, giving him a little radio as he travelled through Bushenyi.
He claims Makaaru aided in decentralisation.
He claims that despite their political differences, they remained close friends with the deceased, eveneven bought him a car worth Shs78 million.
According to Willis Bashasha, an elder in Bushenyi, the late helped build the region’s largest coffee factory.
Mr. Erias Byamungu, a former Rukungiri Chief Administrative Officer who also served in Bushenyi, described the late Mzee Makaru as a hardworking patriarch, legend, and true patriot.e.
