Generally, the feeling of power seems to be a sweet feeling, regardless of what form this power takes. And it seems it’s even a sweeter feeling when one’s power gives them an advantage over others. It’s tempting to use this power for one’s advantage in relation to other people and their needs. And it’s even more tempting to use all means possible to increase this power.
However, power (whatever form it takes) ought to enable us to do what we’re meant to do, better. First to master ourselves, and live the experience of such states as joy and peace. And then to go out on mission (to bring these same desirable states to others). Whose mission? The one who empowers. Pentecost is not to empower the believer to show off (such as with the abundance of spiritual gifts), but to go forth and partake in actualising the wholeness that Jesus offers.
May Jesus Christ fill us with the power of the Holy Spirit. May we know and effectively employ this power in our daily fulfillment of our roles.
