The second season of the Jinja College (Jico) soccer league gets underway on November 25, 2023. The Kampala Report caught up with the league president, Timothy Lasuba Dada, to get a glimpse of what to expect.
1. What do you promise revellers in Season 2?
Each game day is going to be sensational in its own way. We will have more community engagement activities both for the public and the Igauna in this season as we also commemorate the over 75 years of the school’s existence.
2. Do you have any new teams in Season 2?
Yes we have up to 4 new teams in this season, that is, Jico 99, Winter FC, Kaboige FC and Kasenge FC. This tells you how much interest is growing in the league. We desire to pull as many teams as possible for this season.
3. Do you have new partners in Season 2?
We are in partnership with KR Media Ltd, the publishers of www.thekampalareport.com, who have boosted our media presence right from Season 1. We just formalised our marriage this season. KR Media Ltd will keep us alive and visible in the media space. We are very grateful because we did benefit from this in season 1.
We have also been able to form an agreement with Galaxy TV and Kagwirawo Sports Betting, who will support us in pushing the league brand and activities across the digital and mainstream media.
We have Rocket Health who have pledged to not only ensure players wellness on and off the pitch; they’ll also educate us in the various health packages that we can undertake to ensure our success as we strive to excel.
We then have Track 24. These have renewed their promise to support us because they believe in us. From day one, they’ve supported not just the league but several other Cohorts so as to enable them to participate in the food, fun, and fellowship.
So just as they ensure car safety with their car tracking systems, they are ensuring success of the League by traveling our performance.
We believe for more partners and we shall share.
4. What are your predictions for the champions 🏆 of the season two?
For season 2, it’s too close to call. The contenders are many, and it also takes just one bad game for a team to be shifted from contenders to escorts.
5. When will you host the games (game days) and why?
We will maintain our game days on every last Saturday of the month. Also remember the only Alumni League with a home ground so far is Jico League. We are grateful to Mas Group which is also a sponsor for this league for giving us a home ground. This will enable us have more revellers and great experiences at each game day as people turn up to wind down the work pressures.
What makes Jico League unique from other alumni leagues?
At the Jico League- we are one family. We freely interact both the young and old, and we treat each other as equals. We have regard for every single Iguana that attended “Mukibiz School for the Sons of African Gentlemen” because the furnace was the same.
The Jico League isn’t about wins. it is about food, fun, fellowship and friendship.
Lastly, the Jico league is a baby of Jicoba.
