RESULT: Sudan 0 Uganda Hippos 2
Rogers Torach and Isma Mugulusi scored the goals as Uganda’s U-20 national football team, the Hippos, beat Sudan 2-0 on Tuesday, November 8 to qualify for the TotalEnergies U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Finals due next year in Egypt.
The game was one of the semifinal ties at the regional CECAFA Zone qualifiers, which Sudan is hosting in Khartoum.
In their opening game at the regional qualifier, the Hippos defeated Tanzania 2-0 and fell 0-1 to Ethiopia in the group matches but marched on to the semifinals where they drew hosts Sudan.
The Hippos will now face South Sudan in the final on Friday, November 11 . South Sudan beat Ethiopia 4-2 on penalties after a 2-2 draw in the other semifinal tie.
By reaching the final, South Sudan also sealed their place as the CECAFA’s second representative at the U-20 AFCON Finals in Egypt.
