Acholi Province Team Head Coach, Geoffrey Akena, is confident that his team will defend the FUFA Drum title.
Akena’s team are the defending champions of the 2019 second edition of the FUFA Drum football tournament. The tournament was not held in the last two years because sports were interrupted by COVID-19.
The coach told Uganda Radio Network-URN during an interview on Wednesday that he trusts his 25-man squad, which is full of experience, to win the third edition of the tournament.
He explained that the team has been undergoing intense training to shape them mentally and physically ahead of their opening match on Saturday against Bunyoro Province at Bunyoro Stadium in Bunyoro district.
The players will depart for their opening match against Bunyoro Province in Masindi district on Thursday. The game will be played on Saturday.
On Wednesday evening, the Acholi Province team was held to a 2-2 draw by the Gulu City select players during a buildup match played at Pece War Memorial Stadium in Gulu City.
The coach said the build-up was good for the team to prepare well.
The FUFA Drum Competition will be played between 16 provinces of Uganda and it is code named ‘The Drum’ under the theme ‘’Celebrating Our Ancestry”. It will be run and managed under regulations of the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA).
